Any new volunteer who starts at Sun Valley will be given a trial shift before they start, as well as on sight training. We do not expect any volunteer to handle any dog they are not comfortable with, and they will never be left in the kennels alone without a member of staff present. 

Daily jobs include: cleaning, grooming, laundry, walking, gardening, as well as any DIY jobs that pop up.

Below is a copy of our volunteer agreement that all volunteers sign before starting, have a read through, and only apply to volunteer if you agree with the conditions below:

As a volunteer of The Celia Cross Greyhound Trust I understand that when working around
animals there is a risk of being bitten, scratched and/or otherwise injured.

I understand that when volunteering with animals there is a risk of damage to my clothing and/or
personal items. I will therefore wear clothing appropriate for working with animals, with no
hanging jewellery which could cause injury if caught. I will also leave valuable items in a safe place
or carry them with me at my own risk.

 I understand that I may come into contact with animals of unknown origin or questionable health
history, and/or have not yet been treated for disease, which may be transmittable to humans or
other companion animals.

I acknowledge that The Celia Cross Greyhound Trust recommends (but does not require) that all
volunteers keep up to date with tetanus shots. I also understand that CCGT recommends prompt
medical attention for all animal bites or injuries.

I understand that if I am bitten, scratched or otherwise injured by a dog and/or piece of
equipment I will inform staff immediately so that the correct procedures can be carried out.

I understand that I will be volunteering around dogs who may have come from unknown origins
and/or been treated badly by humans in the past, and that these animals may be spooked or
behave defensively when scared. I will therefore behave sensibly around all the dogs I come into
contact with and always be aware and alert.

I understand that I will be volunteering around dogs who may not have be trained or may be
stressed in the kennel environment. I therefore acknowledge that they may jump up, play bite, nip
or act in a boisterous manner, especially when excited.

I understand that I will be informed by staff about all the animals in the care of CCGT, and that I
will give feedback if I notice any unusual behaviour.

 I understand that I do not have to enter the kennel of or work around any particular dog if I do not
feel comfortable or confident enough to.

 As a CCGT volunteer I acknowledge that I will listen to and follow instruction given by staff. I will
also always check and follow instructions displayed on the kennel doors and kennel whiteboard
(displayed in the main kitchen)
