Xena  {pronounced Zee-Na} is a scrumptious older greyhound who just cannot seem to get any luck. She first joined the Sun Valley family in 2021 and has spent the best part of 4 years in a home. Unfortunately, Xena was brought back to us through absolutely zero fault of her own. Xena has quite the sad story to tell, and this is something we will explain in person.  Understandably, Xena just isn’t coping being back in kennels.

Recently, we got Xena out on foster for 3 weeks, and we discovered that she has become reactive to non-sighthound breeds. Her fosterer said it’s completely manageable and with time they feel she would become less anxious and more confident around other breeds. Her fosterer said Xena is extremely anxious outside of the home and this is where her selective reactivity comes from. When feeling confident Xena happily greets other dogs with a waggy tail, but when she’s unsure and anxious she’ll bark and growl at off lead dogs when they enter her space.

Xena is house trained, and is the perfect guest in a home. She struggles a bit on hardwood floors but is a master at stairs and loves to snuggle in bed with you.

Here at the kennels, Xena happily shares her kennel with another male greyhound, and absolutely loves the company. She can definitely live with another Greyhound and was on foster with a confident Female greyhound whom she respected the boundaries of.

We really want Xena to get straight back into a home as she is really struggling with kennel life. Xena chews her bars, paces and whines all day and just cannot seem to settle. This wonderful dog really has been dealt a really sad hand and it would be fantastic to give our girl the happy ending she so deserves. There truly isn’t a more loving hound than our Xena, she will be your best friend and shadow. She craves companionship and will give you that tenfold. She also has the most magnificent ears we have ever seen on a greyhound!

If you want to give a sweet, loving older girl a home, please do get in contact with her to arrange a visit to come and meet her.
