Meet our little Howie, an absolutely gorgeous little lurcher who has recently joined the family. Howie came to us from the pound, and was a little nervous on his first day. He would have been completely overwhelmed by his journey to us and from his 7 days in the pound after being rescued from his previous life. We don’t know anything about Howie’s start in life, only how he behaved at the pound and how he’s been getting on here at Sun Valley. Howie has met a few dogs and has been amazing with them! It really helped bring out his braver and more cheeky side to have another lurcher to run around with in our field and show him the ropes. Day by day, Howie’s confidence has been improving and we’ve been lucky enough to see his real personality start to shine. He’s starting to really love to play with staff and volunteers, and is even approaching us for cuddles and treats. Howie is extremely food motivated and a fantastic eater, so this will help with training and getting him to bond with his new owners once he goes home. He shares his kennel with a tiny whippet and is the most gentle, loving soul towards her. He was even cat tested at the pound and showed absolutely no interest in their resident cat.

We think Howie would like an active, fun loving home that want a dog to take on adventures and dote over. He could totally live with dog savvy kids who will respect his need to decompress once he comes home. He can absolutely live with other dogs, and he’s shown us he’s a reals dogs dog! Even though he’s shy to start, Howie is still a young lurcher who will need enrichment and adequate exercise, especially as his confidence grows and he starts to forget his stressful past and moves on from it. He’ll need an owner that will go at Howie’s pace, let him settle in in his own time, and once he is his full cheeky self, will have the time and energy to take him on the long walks and adventures that he deserves. 

Howie is an absolute super star and has been a joy to look after, and is ready to live the rest of his life in the comfort of a warm, secure home.
